About

For as long as I can remember, I have loved to write, especially history-based fiction based on places and subjects I know.  I have been a freelance journalist, elected official’s aide, text-book author, adjunct professor, attorney, and technical writer as a partner in a land use planning firm.  For fun, I work at being a tone-deaf guitar aficionado.

After retiring from my planning firm, I devoted my energy to constructing historical novels of which four have been published to date. Falling Down, Jerkwater Town, and Bad Sign feature investigative reporter Nick Lanouette, a troubled reporter who seeks to resolve crimes committed in and around San Diego. A fourth work, The Con Man’s Folly, follows the career and personal life of a renowned counterfeiter and rogue.

A revised and expanded edition of Falling Down was published in late 2022.

I was born in Spokane, WA, but have resided in southern California since 1971. I live in Harmony Grove Village, a community in Escondido, CA. Jane, my wife of almost fifty years passed in December 2022. We have two married sons, two wonderful daughters-in-law, and three grandchildren.

  1. Hey there! I stumbled on this and enjoyed it thoroughly. Doors fan here, and so glad you get to have your day. I thought mine was when I finally saw Eric Clapton at Universal City….uh, nope! No magic in his presence – better on the CD’s with wine at home. Such is life. Ben Harper did it for me, though. I was right back in the 60’s/70’s with his performance. Enjoy Frank – er, James!
